Roe Valley Cycling Club again showed great early season form when they fielded seven riders across all the classes at the Gerald Long memorial road race on Sunday at Kildress near Cookstown. The races were staged on an extremely challenging course which consisted of a number of short steep hills which allowed no time for recovery. In the Ladies race Lisa Mann again rode strongly leading home the sprint in the second bunch finishing just outside the main positions. Roe Valley showed strongly in the A4 category with James Mullan and Francis McNichol entering their first open road race. Both riders aquited themselves extremely well finishing in the second bunch only a short distance down on the leaders and gaining invaluable experience. Alistair Bratten finished in the leading bunch just outside the top ten with another very strong performance as he has been putting in all season so far. Roe Valleys other A4 riders Keith Sharp and George Boyd finished 6th and 7th respectively. Both experienced riders using their speed to compete at the sharp end of the mass bunch sprint. In the A3 category Declan McCartney ran into an unfortunate chain of events. Firstly puncturing just before the start and then suffering a mechanical problem on the first lap the talented riders day ended in frustration.
